I think it's partially because we've heard all of the old voice lines literally hundreds of times in the past decade, ingraining their exact tone, timbre, tempo, accent and everything into our brains. It's not that he's not trying, it's more that he's lost the ability to replicate the original voices. His most recent lines are just.really poor quality, even for the Demoman. In this line he seems to break character halfway through.
